🇫🇷 Displaying the french environmental cost - all you need to know

On October 1st 2025, the French Decree n°2025-957 was published, establishing rules for how the French environmental cost must be displayed.

This new regulation is designed to give consumers clearer information about the environmental impact of the products they buy, marking an important step toward greater transparency in the fashion industry.

Since 2022, Fairly Made has actively participated in the regulatory discussions and now offers a solution fully aligned with the official methodology. Below, we outline the scope, key rules, and a practical checklist of actions to help you prepare.

1. Regulatory Scope

  • Effective date: October 1st 2025
  • Mandatory: if you display any environmental impact on your product's showcase, the environmental cost must also be shown.
  • Applies to: apparel textiles sold in France.
  • Excluded categories: home textiles, footwear, leather goods, single-use textiles, products with electronic components, or products with more than 20% of non-modelable materials.
  • Signal & design rules: a standardized official label must be displayed digitally and/or physically. Fairly Made has already integrated this official graphic charter.
